Winnipeg, MB and Regina, SK (June 9th, 2021) – Co-op Hail Insurance and Weatherlogics have partnered in a hailstorm data sharing project for 2021. The new partnership between Co-op Hail and Weatherlogics will bring improved awareness, reporting, and damage assessment for hailstorms events that affect crops on the Prairies. Weatherlogics’ President and Chief Scientist Scott Kehler shared his enthusiasm for this new partnership;

“We are very excited to share our meteorological expertise with Co-op Hail to benefit producers on the Prairies. By utilizing advanced hailstorm monitoring and forecasting, we will help bring improved situational awareness for these damaging events.”

Co-op Hail’s CEO Murray Bantle provided insight into the partnership;

“We are looking forward to working with Scott and his team at Weatherlogics.  Their expertise and storm analysis will aid us in our claims, storm processes, and evaluation.  Our information and participation will also provide Weatherlogics with information on the effects hail can cause to crops, allowing them to do further study on hail damage and weather technology.

As the weather forecasting partner, Weatherlogics will provide accurate hailstorm maps and forecasts to the team at Co-op Hail to better understand areas affected by hailstorms. The partnership will provide both parties with radar-based hail maps, and ground-truth hail reports to improve the accuracy of the hailstorm loss estimates.

The project is designed with the hopes of better understanding the effects of hailstorm damage to crops on the Prairies. Furthermore, the project designed to bring awareness and conversation to the agriculture industry through CCA and CEU sessions in the fall of 2021.
